The Lesson My Feet Are About to Teach You!

I know this title is really weird...but keep reading. Haha.

Yesterday I went to the doctor to get my official diagnosis of diabetes.

As the doctor is finishing up, she says, “take off your shoes and socks.” I thought this was slightly weird...I wasn’t there for a foot issue.

She went on to say that people who are diabetic can have issues with their feet where they begin to lose feeling. They can get cuts, infections, etc. and never know about it because they can’t feel it.

Can I say this...I’ve never stopped and thanked God for my toes. It’s just kind of always been a given.

But now my perspective has changed so much. Right this second I have two huge blisters on both of my feet and guess what? I CAN FEEL THEM!

I never thought I would be thankful for pain...but now I am! Because that pain means my feet work. That pain means I’m doing something right!

So what are my feet teaching me? Two things...

#1 - Be thankful in the storm.

I may have been diagnosed with diabetes, but praise God I’m still on this side of eternity. Because there are others who aren’t that fortunate. There are others who have already lost their life because of this disease.

My new perspective is this...if I’m in a storm...I’m still alive! Praise God for that!

Now it becomes about what is the storm meant to teach me and how soon can I learn it?

#2 - Pain is a blessing.

I know this may not make sense. But I’m so thankful today that I can feel the pain in my feet...because it reminds me that they are still there.

So often we run from pain, we run from struggle, but we can’t grow that way. We can only regress.

Now, every morning, when I kick my legs out of bed and I can feel the cold floor, I’m going to be thankful! Every time I stub my toe and I feel it, I’m going to be thankful! That pain means they are working.

What does this mean for you?

For some, you’ve been handcuffed by pain for a long time. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, a long fight with a friend, not getting that promotion, or maybe even your child having health or behavior issues.

No matter what it is, change your perspective. What can and have you learned from it? What is the positive? Because with all negative also comes positive.

Who in your life is a couple years behind you that you could help? Like my grandpa says, let your misery be your ministry!

It’s time to stop living in the past. It’s time to stop dwelling on what’s going wrong. It’s time to stop using the pain as an excuse. It’s time to look that pain in the face and push through it.

I don’t know what your issue is, but I know you have some. Because I do too. I’m praying for you!
