You Might Be Doing Doing This Too Much

You might be doing this too much.png

Oh, you thought it was a typo in the graphic? Heck no…some of you are “doing this” too much, it required two “doings!” Ha.

Instagram stories and Facebook stories are all the rave right now!

And I’m proud of so many of you that are fully embracing them.

But…and this is a big but…

Do not lean too heavily on them!

Why you might ask?

For multiple reasons…

#1 - Stories disappear in 24 hours.

Before you say it, yes, you can put them as a highlight on your IG profile. But still, don’t let your best work be exclusively on IG/FB stories. Because 24 hours from now you have nothing to show for it.

I’m watching so many Realtors do great things in their stories…but their feeds get the posts that seem like an afterthought.

Don’t give the “afterthought post” to what people see permanently.

You need to create proper balance with posts in your feed and in your stories. Many of you may be leaning too heavy to one side.

#2 - Stories don’t grow your audience.

Stories are just now beginning to show up in the search part on IG…so this may be slowly changing, but it’s important to know how this stuff works in balance with each other.

Stories are designed to deepen the relationship with the followers you already have.

Posts are designed to reach new audiences.

You need both.

Don’t just do videos in your stories where they go away…get them in your feed so they are always there. Put them in IG as an IGTV episode then share that to your stories.

(Did you also know that when you create an IGTV episode, IG lets you use the swipe up feature in your stories for free? Pretty cool!)

Keep yourself from getting heavy to one side or the other. The feed is great and stories are great. But they aren’t great when you’re only using one of them…

#3 - Just because it’s easy, it doesn’t make it right.

In my opinion, stories are the easiest part of social media to start today! Because it goes away in 24 hours, it’s easy to not overthink it. It’s easy to point and click and bam…you got a story!

But this way of thinking could also cause you to get too heavy on your stories and not challenge yourself with better content in your newsfeed.

I will say this until I’m blue in the face….nothing is more important in your marketing than video. Just don’t let all of your videos only make it into your stories…what a huge waste of your energy, effort, and brilliance!

I would recommend that you create video content outside of your stories first so that it can be used in other places. Originate it on Facebook Live, record it on your phone, then you can put it in your stories amongst other places.

The bottomline…IG & FB stories are great…

Just don’t live there…your future opportunities will struggle.
