48 Hours Later...
The new Facebook algorithm changes are proving to affect the "good guys." Here's the link to the article if you missed it, https://newsroom.fb.com/news/2017/12/news-feed-fyi-fighting-engagement-bait-on-facebook/
While I understand why they are doing it and ultimately am glad they are getting rid of the annoying and "salesy posts, I'm not excited about what it's going to do to mine in the process.
So, like every other time, we learn, shift and change on the fly to keep our posts going the way we want and need them to.
Here's what I've noticed in the last 48 hours...
1. The timeline is all over the place. Last night I was scrolling and started seeing posts from December 12, December 5th and all the way back to November. So our recent posts are not promised to remain in anyone's feed while they are working these changes out.
2. My posts with pictures or videos attached are failing big time in comparison to how my posts have performed in the past. I've posted pictures in the past that have received several hundred likes. In the last 48 hours, most of them have barely got to 10.
3. My posts that are 100% content are performing the best.
The only thing that matters is what are we going to do now? We can complain, we can wish it was different, but it is what it is. And that's ok. Here are my suggestions...
1. Go heavy on video. It's not a secret, Facebook is obsessed with Facebook Live (as they should be) and you can't go wrong on that platform. This algorithm doesn't seem to affect it at all.
2. Go heavy on content, which means plain text on a page. I think the algorithm is going heavy after posts that have a picture and/or video attached. So my guess is, they will flag far more than they should in the early stages. Look for those posts to come back stronger in the coming weeks.
3. Pay attention. When Facebook does anything to their algorithm, you should always be aware of what your posts are doing. Because it can show up different for anybody. So pay close attention.
To wrap up, I'm excited about this change. It will ultimately (when the kinks are worked out) get rid of truly spammy posts and make room for my authentic ones! So be patient, it will be worth it.
