Lessons From A Toddler

This morning I was up early with the kids so Lana could sleep in. She never gets to do that, so I like when I can help accommodate that! (browny points for the win, ha)

For the last couple days, Everly, my three-year-old, has battled some sinus and cough stuff. And for the life of me, she would not blow her nose. It has driven me crazy! Well, this morning that all changed. I asked if she wanted to blow her nose and she actually said yes. I was elated!

She blew her nose, and then immediately said, "I did so good!" It was hilarious. She then wanted me to give her a high five, and I love high fives, so of course, that happened next. It was a very fun moment for us!

It got me thinking....at what point in our lives did we stop celebrating the small things? As adults, we take everything so seriously. It's almost like our vision changes and we go from being able to see and celebrate small victories to only being able to see large defeats. It causes us to live our lives deflated.

What if we learned a lesson from our little ones today? What would your life or my life look like if we celebrated some of the small things?

For you, it may be just celebrating making the sales call. Don't stress about the outcome, celebrate the action. That small celebration done over and over again will lead to massive growth in your business.

Maybe you need to celebrate the fact that you woke up early. Now, maybe you weren't as purposeful with what you did once you were awake, but who cares. You woke up! Celebrate it. You can fine tune what you do during that time later; today, celebrate the action.

Or maybe you're like me this morning...I've been so frustrated about my daughter not wanting to blow her nose...and finally she did. On a busy weekday, I probably would not have even noticed. But because it's Sunday, I had slowed down enough to notice it and celebrate it.

In order for growth to happen in our lives, we have to find balance in pushing ourselves to be better, while at the same time celebrating the fact that we aren't where we used to be.

One of my favorite pastors says it like this...

"I may not be where I want to be, but thank God I'm not where I used to be."

Take a moment today to find the small victory. You don't have to ascend to the top of the mountain in a day. Just keep working your way up! You've got this! Keep going. You're good enough!
