What Maine taught me.
Last week a dream of mine came true…I was paid to travel across the country to speak on subjects that I’m incredibly passionate about!
So before I begin, thank you to Scott and Sunny Townsend for your relentless pursuit of getting me to Maine! And thank you Keller Williams Maine for trusting me to lead and teach your amazing people!
As I have reflected over the last week, I want to share with you the things I learned on that trip.
#1 - I don’t always need A/C!
The entire time I was in Maine I was driven around in a really cool old school VW van and we had the windows down the entire trip! And I didn’t sweat once. Haha! The
#2 - Maine is God’s country!
I have never been in a more beautiful environment. How anyone could look around at the beaches, the cliffs, the ocean, the sky, and everything green and think it just happened on accident is crazy to me. I got to walk on the beach, walk on cliffs and see Roger Goddell’s house (Commissioner of the NFL), I even saw a ship wreck from 1897. Wow!
Never have I felt closer to the Creator of the universe. It was absolutely stunning every where I looked. I’m so thankful for such a creative God!
#3 - The people loved me as their own!
Maybe they were faking it, haha. But, everyone was so welcoming of me! Several people offered to take me to lunch. They were constantly asking what I’ve seen and where we’ve been. And they were super complimentary of me in general. (Plus, they laughed at my jokes) I will never forget my new Maine friends! They have left a mark on me for the better!
#4 - I need to give more!
I spent three and 1/2 days with one of the most giving dudes I have ever known in my life! Scott Townsend is one of a kind! He had every details of our time together planned out. He was constantly asking what I needed. He refused to let me carry my suitcase upstairs to my room. And every where I went, someone seemed to have a story about Scott.
Scott, thank you for challenging me to be better! For challenging me to give more and live at a higher level than I have before! You are incredible! Love you, bro!
#5 - I was reminded that I’m good at what I do!
Now, stay with me…this isn’t what it sounds. This section IS NOT about me tooting my own horn!
This is what I mean…in my life, I’ve always tried to walk a fine line between confidence and arrogance. And often times, in my attempt to be humble, I truly start thinking less of myself.
And in the past, I’ve become really good at masking insecurity through humor and a false sense of confidence.
But this trip was the first time that I truly was able to put my gifts on display in front of an audience that had no clue who I was. It was horrifying and refreshing at the same time!
Everything I said resonated so well with everyone in the room. And all I can say is this…
GOD IS GOOD! Even it doesn’t seem like it…He is FAITHFUL!
In closing, this was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I’ll never forget that my new friends in Portland, Maine trusted me first! So that one day, when I get to speak to thousands of people at one time, I’ll never forget where it all started.
And PS…I didn’t talk as much about the food because I got sick when I got home! As good as it was, I don’t think I can ever eat lobster again. Ha. (Hopefully Scott doesn’t read this part)
