Paint Your Picture
When are you going to see the value in yourself that others see?
I speak to Realtors and Loan Officers weekly…I also speak on stages with rooms full of people…
They are all the same…
The seats are filled with individuals that are all the same…we are all the same…
If left to our own accord, we all don’t see as much value in ourselves as others see in us.
And we tend to come in three different shapes and sizes…and expose ourselves differently…
Insecurity. For some, they do very little with their story. Because they under value themselves, their picture isn’t worth painting!
Indifferent. This person doesn’t see themselves as insignificant, but they don’t see themselves as exciting either. They think everything they do well, so does everyone else. They might paint their picture some, but they think their picture is the same one everyone else is painting.
Prideful. You have figured out how to mask your insecurity in swagger or confidence. But most of it is selfishly directed at yourself. So you are painting your picture…but the only character in the painting is you.
We all spend time in one or more of these three groups.
I’ve had seasons in my life in all three of them.
I’ve felt completely insecure at times…
When I started my roofing company, I didn’t have a clue what I was doing.
My picture was nonexistent. I didn’t know what to paint and I didn’t feel qualified to paint it.
When I started teaching social media, I often times felt like everyone had already heard what I had to say. That people should already know what I know. It felt like what I was willing to paint was being painted by so many others.
When I pastored, I had a long season of complete arrogance. I was painting picture after picture. But every picture was designed to make me look the best. It was all about me all the time.
But there’s a sweet spot that we must find for ourselves…
It starts with putting others first.
When we put the needs of others above our own, it’s impossible to start wrong.
And it’s the needs of others that start the best painting.
Because what good is a painting that no one is attracted to.
Start asking questions. Get an idea of what value looks like to your people.
Then, believe in your uniqueness.
Great painters didn’t become great by copying other painters. Great painters became great by operating in their strength and being set apart.
There will NEVER be another you.
You are set apart!
You are one of a kind!
You are exactly the way you are supposed to be!
Others believe that about you….it’s time you start believing in yourself!
I work with people on their story. I help them develop content. I help them with their videos.
When this switch goes off, the game changes!
You have greatness inside of you.
And if you don’t believe in yourself….borrow the belief I have in you!
Now for the final piece…live it out with consistency.
It’s time to “live your best life.”
Isn’t that what the cool kids are saying these days?
Have opinions.
Take a stance.
Increase your voice.
Help people.
Teach people.
Interview leaders.
Encourage somebody.
And here’s the secret sauce…
While you’re living your best life, fill in the details on social media.
Connect the dots for people. Give them that glimpse into who you are, what you do, and why you are passionate about doing it.
This is what’s holding you back…
Put others first.
Believe in your uniqueness.
Live it out with consistency.
Now pick up that paint brush and and get to work!
