My Purpose Unleashed
There’s a quote that goes something like this…
There are two important days in every person’s life…the day they’re born and the day they find out why.
Now, purpose is an interesting thing…
Because I believe that it ebbs and flows. I think parts of our purpose are revealed to us at different points in our lives that help propel us forward to something greater.
Mine started when I was in 9th grade. It’s when God told me to start a Bible study with my friends (yea, not the coolest of things to be told to do) and that grew into over 150 HS students pouring into my parents house every single week to eat Papa John’s Pizza, fruit rollups and Chick-Fil-A chicken nuggets.
Then a few years later I was sitting at a lake in Colorado overseeing a group of 9th grade boys on our church’s summer camp. That lead to almost a decade in church ministry loving and leading young people.
The most recent was two weeks ago…
And it came at the mostly timely of times, yet unexpected as well.
It was a Wednesday morning, my phone started ringing, it was one of my coaching clients. I pick up, say hello, and she leads out with, “I need you to find me a young person that can do content compounding for me.”
Well, I’m a man of action! That is a good thing sometimes and a bad thing the rest of the time!
The moment she said that to me…it is as if God struck me with a lightning bolt!
Why am I not offering this as a service to people?
I kid you not…I have felt SO ALIVE over the last two weeks! Because I truly believe this is the next evolution in the purpose that God has for my life!
I get to lead people. I get to offer jobs and provide people with ways to make money. I get to MEET A NEED!
Let me unpack that…
In March, when The Rona hit…I lost 60% of my revenue overnight. I was not prepared for a pandemic and neither was my business. Too many of my eggs were tied up in the public speaking basket…
From March to June, I had been praying and searching for what was next. I had been trying to figure out how do I meet the needs of my Realtors at a higher level? What are people not doing? And Content Compounding the service was born.
This blog isn’t trying to sell you anything…though I’ll gladly tell you about it if you ask. :)
This blog is to encourage you to keep going!
It’s to share more of my story with you; my faults, my failures, and a little bit of success along the way.
Out of nowhere…God showed me the vision for something spectacular! And I want to help you get out of your own way to experience the same thing…your purpose unleashed!
I believe there are four things that are necessary to experience your purpose….
#1 - You have to admit you don’t know it all.
Humility is a funny thing. Too much of it and you struggle to be confident. But too little of it and you think you already got life figured out and don’t need anyone’s help.
The secret is in the constant fight to stay in the middle.
For me, it’s a constant see-saw. But here lately, I think I’m starting to figure it out.
You have to admit you don’t know everything. You have to stop getting offended when people want to help. You have to actually open yourself to criticism and the pruning process.
Until you are willing to loosen your grasp on what you’re doing, this will always be really hard.
The Apostle Paul said, “Be humble treating others as better than yourself.”
Most people force themselves to go where they think they should go…instead of being open to going where God wants them. The second part…that is humility.
#2 - You have to allow the right people to speak into your life.
Don’t let people speak death over your purpose! Who the heck are they?!
Get around people that will fight for your dreams alongside you!
If you have people in your life that you don’t share your dreams without fear that they’ll crush them…you deserve better.
Because living out your purpose is hard. It’s exhausting. It drains you. So you have to have the right people around you that fill you back up!
How do you start pruning out the wrong people? Become the right person first. Become an encourager. Speak life into others. Ask good questions.
This will begin to weed out the wrong people and cause the right people to be attracted to you. You’ll be like a magnet of goodness!
#3 - Be a person of action.
You don’t find your purpose by sitting still!
I was taught early in my life that God blesses moving feet. So get moving!
Try new things. Do things that you know you’re going to be bad at. This is how we learn.
I was meeting with a good friend of mine and he told me a story about his mentor…
His mentor was telling him how he makes decisions. He said, if I have several doors in front of me, I choose the door that has fear in front of it.
What?!
He said if fear is standing in front of a door, of course, that’s the right door for me to choose! Because the right thing is never easy!
So, let me ask you this? What have you wanted to do for a long time, but you still haven’t? Why? What are you waiting for? What are you afraid of? What’s the worst thing that could happen if you fail? Let’s do this!
Take action!
#4 - Give God control.
If I’m being honest, I suck. I mess up way more than I succeed. In my life, when I try to “be the man.” I fail…very fast!
But when I know that God is in control…when I know He’s in charge…it helps me stay in my lane. It helps me not put too much pressure on myself. It helps me calm down and get to work.
The Apostle Paul said this when he asked God to take his pain away, God said…“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Come on somebody! That’s awesome!
My purpose becomes most clear in my life when I don’t put all the pressure on me to find it.
My hope and prayer for this blog post is that you will step into your purpose. And if I can help, please, please, please, tell me how! :)
