How To Start Mastering Your Story

We all have a story. Actually, we all have lots of stories. There have been 100’s and possibly 1000’s of things that have happened to us which have lead to us being who we are today.

For some, you have been through absolute hell to get to today. For others, it may not be that intense, but none the less, you’ve overcome great things to be present reading this right this second.

Those stories and experiences are the only thing that separate you from everyone else. You might call them your “x-factor.”

While most people are out there pedaling their product…they are the “cheapest,” the “fastest,” the “biggest,” the “smallest,” the “whatever they want to say.” All of those things come and go, if you’re the cheapest today, you probably won’t be tomorrow. If you’ve won an award 5 years in a row, someone will come in behind you end up winning it 6 times. It’s inevitable.

Then add in social media. Social media has flipped businesses on their heads. We are like young children picking up a gun for the first time. That much power probably shouldn’t be possessed by someone with that little experience. And that is how most of us are with social media.

We have the world at our finger tips, but all we know how to do is screw it up.

Not anymore…your story is what will separate you from the rest of the industry. Your story is what will draw people in to want to know, like and trust you. Your story will position you to receive more business than you can even handle. Your story will make you the most referred business person in your market.

It’s time to “Master Your Story.”

So where do we start?

First, you have to start writing it down…

Let’s start here…answer this question…

Why do you do what you do?

Write down your answer.

Then, why did you pick the industry that you’re in?

Write down your answer.

Next, what gifts and abilities do you possess that make you good at your job?

Write them down.

Finally, what keeps your ideal client up at night?

Write it down.

What you wrote down is the beginning of your story.

Now, decide how you want to tell it?

Your options are video, words (blog), audio (podcast), and pictures.

And if you haven’t noticed by now…to start the beginning stages of your story, it’s about asking tons of questions.

You should essentially treat it like you are interviewing yourself.

Do you know the most important part of a great interview?

Genuine fascination.

When the person asking the questions is genuinely fascinated by the person they are interviewing, their questions will dictate that.

Get fascinated with yourself. Dig deep. Make yourself answer some tough questions.

Tough questions result in tough answers…and tough answers turn into great stories!

This is where you start.

Part two of this blog series will be coming soon…so knock out these questions and get ready to MASTER YOUR STORY.
